Advisers: Friend or Foe
Your adviser is sometimes the one person you've interacted with the most throughout your career at AU. They can make or break your experience by either making life easy or extremely difficult. They are the gateway to the huge bureaucracy that makes up our lovely college. But, how are they evaluated? Unlike for professors, students do not fill out an evaluation form after each semester. But shouldn't we? How do their higher-ups who make their employment decisions know if they're doing a good job? I've heard dozens of horror stories and I am currently being shafted by my adviser. Hopefully the next Student Government can bring about some accountability with our academic advisers. Tell your story in the forum.
KPU: Back and Better Than Ever

Plus a Quick Wrap-Up of all things AU

There is no question in my mind after watching Martin Sheen give a heartfelt, at times lighthearted speech about activism in America that KPU had by all measures a banner year. Under the stellar leadership of Amanda Fulton we saw an eclectic group of speakers ranging from Tom Delay to Geraldine Ferraro to Martin Sheen. Amanda almost without a doubt spent more time in her office than she did on school work this year and for that we should all be grateful.
Seeing Martin Sheen speak last night was a truly amazing experience and I know of several others who felt the same way. Sure, he's a professional actor and he only plays the president on television, but he conveyed his thoughts so clearly and in an interesting way, something most speakers I've seen in my time at AU have a real problem with (the endless blabbering of Bradley Whitford or Jimmy Carter being generally boring as well).
I would just say this, we've got a lot to be proud of this year at AU; a new President, a great basketball team, a strong arts program, and excellent SG departments like KPU, AUTO and SUB. I think Joe deserves some real credit as well, he mad a conscious effort to respond to problems and I think he did with great effect considering some of the restrictions placed upon him by the school administration and undergraduate senate.
School is almost over people, I'm already looking forward to a new year of even better events and an overall improved student experience.
